TIME:- 7am   Target:-7 Hills.   Amanda, Graeme and myself wanted to refresh our memories of the route for the 7 Hills of Edinburgh Race which takes place in two weeks time. Attempting to avoid town parking by Carlton Hill we decided to start our circular recce at Braid Hills Golf Club with Blackford Hill being our first summit. Although it was difficult to get out of bed for such an early meet up we were soon into our stride and enjoying the peace and tranquility that an early morning offers.

Prague Marathon 2013  Cast your minds back (if you can) to the end of December 2012. Oh it was cold, rainy and miserable (nothing changes eh) but we had a new year beckoning with all the promises of joy it would bring. With this thought of joy to all men and women I decided to enter the Edinburgh Marathon, Sorry but we re full up. (nay na na na na) said my cheeky young computer, yes it does talk to me. Or maybe it's just the voices in my head, who knows. Oh well stuff them I thought and then I had an idea. How do you involve your partner in your training race plan? Let him or her pick your big race, simple...

London/North Berwick/ Edinburgh 2013:  The Murray 3

My neighbour’s son Murray suffers from a rare genetic disorder so I decided at the end of last year that I would try and raise some money for him by running London Marathon, Edinburgh – North Berwick and Edinburgh Marathon. I called it The Murray 3.

Penicuik 10k 30th Anniversary Road Race.

Penicuik 10 K may was selected for this year’s Club Championships for us mere mortals I felt, we may not be able to handle 56 miles of the Fling or a Marathon but we can take on a 10k can we not?

Highland Fling 2013 At 6 am last Saturday morning together with some 600 other early risers Kathy and I stood outside the railway station in a small commuter town north west of Glasgow waiting to start our longest ultra to date. The Highland Fling takes in the first 53 miles of the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Tyndrum and is the most popular ultra race in the UK.

Neither of us suffered pre-race nerves. We’d logged the training miles (mostly in the Pentlands) over the past 3 months and this was just another long run. So we were keen to get going and when the gun went it was a release. The feeling of knowing we were escaping from all responsibilities and had to do nothing but run for the next 10 hours was unexpectedly therapeutic and we’d recommend it to anyone interested enough to have read this far!
