Awards Night, 14/12/05After a short run round the Road Race course we showered and made our way upstairs for a drink and the awards night.
A good sized crowd heard Jim Scott, chairman, remark how the club was thriving and hoped folk were getting from it what they wanted. It was good to see David Edgar and Janet Laing there as they have both been absent, due to injury, for some time. David was thanked for his years of service as Club Secretary; a post which he hands over to Karen Munro. Karen and Lynn were thanked for organising the Christmas Bash which was greatly enjoyed and ran very smoothly. Lynn received further appreciation along with Gordon for their excellent encouragement, coaching the club. Also being singled out for recognition was Willie Murray, who represented Scotland at the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International in Dublin last month.
The club championship trophies were then awarded - in three age categories for either sex - to Mary Hunter, Karen Munro and Cath Webster; and for the men, Graham Henry, myself and Werner Kittel. The George Montgomery Memorial Trophy was then presented, also to myself, to mark the good fortune I've had racing this year, which was a great honour. Unfortunately neither Cath nor Graham was able to make the evening. In Graham's case he was at home caring for Dominique, who fell from her bike recently breaking both arms and a finger. We all wish her a speedy recovery after such a serious incident.
The evening ended with a “Secret Santa,” which had been set at a £5.00 limit; though as the departing secretary was inclined to say, you weren't obliged to spend the whole amount.....
