Handicap Race and Awards Night 19/12/07

Its probably not very politically correct to call a
race handicapped. Special needs race or even different
needs doesn't really tell the story properly. One thing was for
sure, it was hats off to Richard for putting quite a bit of energy and
thought into the splendid organisation of this event, which immediately
preceded the annual Awards Night.

Richard has a positive experience with Handicap Races;
recently winning the Water of Leith Race with an outstanding performance.
And he has just the right sort of mind for calculating the start times
of the entire club so that we all finished within a couple of minutes
of each other after running the 4 miles road race course. And he did
well to deal with all the complaints and winjing about who should be
starting before whom.

All in all a great success though probably some fine
tuning required before the next anticipated running of the same which
may well be in three weeks time before the AGM in January. (I did think
that Iain D's sprinting / short distance ability had been underestimated!)
However well done to everyone who took part on one of the coldest nights
of the year. Especially Iain Duckworth, Sarah Laing and Paul Edwards
who came first, second and third. Bert and Big John Blair had been out
racing the night before and so had a very good excuse for not making
their predicted times - I think John got the prize for furthest from
his anticipated finish, while Scott Jarvie got a prize for nearest to
his anticipated time.

and then there was one....

Then onto Awards night. Championship results here.
With Douglas abroad and Karen busy elsewhere, Lynn took the helm and
led us through the various awards. The George Montgomery trophy was
awarded to Coach Gordon for years of dedication and service to the club.
