Awards Night 17/12/08

Richard came up with a variation on last year's handicap
races which involved us running 3 one mile laps along the windy prom,
with diminishing recovery between each lap. If you had any sense you
paced the first two and had something left to complete the three evenly
and in similar times. This won you most points, but having modest brain
power a few of us set off at maximum pace and were stuffed after lap
1. I'm sure sense will prevail next time...

Thanks to Richard for all his hard work organising and
scoring the handicap race.

After recovering we went upstairs where Douglas presided
over the club championship awards. Results as follows...
Senior Women; Kerry third, Katie second, Amanda first.
Senior Men; Robert K third, George second, Scott F first.
Vet Women; Sally third, Karen second, Mary first.
Vet Men; Paul Ed third, Willie second, Peter first.
Super Vet Women; Shelagh third, Aileen second, Gillian first.
Super Vet Men; Graham P third, Douglas second, Bert first.
Super-duper Vet Women; Janice
Super-duper Vet Men; Tony

Coaches prizes... Lynn: Margaret. Bert: Katie. Gordon:
Peter. And the coaches received a bottle for their input over the year.

In the intervening time Richard had done the maths to
determine the handicap winners and he presented 4 awards; Rab for improving
the most over the 3 laps, Paul Ed for closest to predicted time, Alan
was crowned King and Amanda, Queen for combining speed and consistency.

Peter was presented with a bottle for website
activities.

The George Montgomery Trophy was presented to Rab in
light of his amazing journey completed earlier in the year when he ran
a marathon sized distance every day for a fortnight from Edinburgh to
Stevenage in memory of his brother Shaun, and to raise awareness of
CADD, the Campaign Against Drinking and Driving.
The draw for the FLM places was taken and the lucky
winners were Iain Duckworth and Lynne Pearson.
The night finished with the Secret Santa.
See you all on the 7th January 2009 – have a safe and joyful Christmas
and New Year.
