Braids Cross Country 11/11/06
Very similar conditions to last year; bleak day but
with a bit of sunshine at the right spot, but far too cold to be hanging
around in vest and shorts for long. Just under three miles of mud, splosh
and slide for the ladies and twice that (2 laps) for the men. Its still
a tough course - a mile of climb followed by a sharp descent then very
muddy undulating tracks and paths on a long incline back down to the
start. They had tarmac-ed the carpark this year: don't know if that
made things any easier? Loads of young students seem to come from all
over the country but I imagine that's for the party afterwards. Last
race in the PRC championship - most of the interested parties turned
up and ran like maniacs. New to this course Scott H and Jim both appreciated
the brutalities of the day, with Jim throwing his filthy socks straight
in the bin. Me? Glad when it was over and surprised (and relieved) Mr.
J didn't go past in the latter stages, after his hugely impressive time
at Jedburgh. Highlight was seeing Mary go up the hill 3rd Porty and
come down 1st, going like the clappers. Leading the PRC ladies to 12th
team out of 22, while the men came 20th out of 33 and B Team 31st out
of 33. Pretty good considering most of the field (HBT aside) were in
their early 20s. Well done everyone!

Graham took this great shot from the top of the Braids before his camera
packed in, so he was reduced to shouting encouraging things from the
sidelines. (I think they were encouraging.)
