Dunfermline Auld Toun 10k 10/5/06

On what must have been the hottest evening this year
Janet and I went over to Dunfermline to compete in the 10K last Wednesday. We
arrived with an hour to spare and after changing we decided to go for
a pre-race warm up in Pittencrief Park (trying to find as much shade
as possible). Having done the warm up and with still plenty of time
to spare we both did our stretches and strides. We came upon the race
organiser who told us that it was a new course this year (due to police
restrictions) and it meant the course would be hillier than normal.
With time still on our hands Janet decided that we should do more stretching
and strides (oh god). We then went for a loo stop at the pavilion whereupon
she insisted that we needed to do one more set of stretches and strides
prior to the race starting (at which point I cried).
Thankfully after the third set of stretches and strides the announcer
asked us all to move to the start line in anticipation of getting the
race under way. We wished each other well and duly set off on the 2.5
lap course in and around the park. Janet ran an excellent race and finished
3rd female (1st vet) on her come back in a time 38.57 and I duly came
in 2nd placed in the over 50 category in a time of 41.00. It must be
said that the official times were incorrect by at least 5 seconds as
both Janet and I had clocked quicker times on our watches but we were
both delighted with our results, trophies and cash prizes.
Welcome back Janet (Dunbar).
