Portobello Running Club

Edinburgh to North Berwick, 2/05/09

Here are some photos sent in by Gert and Keith who were marshalling. Gert says his 10 year old who was taking the photos might have set the camera wrongly giving a distorted appearance to the photos but I quite like them. Jim has just sent in his report, if anybody else wants to relate their experience then go ahead. Any other photos welcome. If they are full size send them in groups of 2 or 3 per email as the server can't cope with more than about 10 mb per email. Thanks. Oh and Willie has just sent in his photos which I'll add to the bottom with Jim's report.

Jim's report...(and Willie's photos)

Okay so I never actually won an award a la Mr Bert Logan, or brought a Porty team in first a la my Mrs, however I thought I would write a quick report for all those ‘potential’ winners toying with the idea of joining Portobello Running Club (PRC).

If anyone had told me I would run a 20 mile road race only 5 months after becoming an official member of PRC I would have laughed. If anyone had have told me I would have been aiming to get as close as possible to 3 hours (3.10 to be exact) I’d have died laughing. However, this is exactly what I set out to do.

Now (for those of you who know me) I am not exactly built for speed as I like a lot of chocolate, but that didn’t stop me ‘chumming’ the infamous Mrs Munro for the majority of the race. As I basked in her popularity and cheers of encouragement from every man and their dog on course, before I knew it we were past halfway and on the home straight (if you can call 10 miles “home straight”).

I lost some time and Mrs Munro after Aberlady as my Imodium let me down (need I say more) although I pushed on thanks to the lessons I’d learned from PRC and the support and encouragement from Fiona, Keith, Sandra and Morag amongst others which got me to the finish line in a time of 3.11. Yes I know it was .57 but in my book it’s still 3.11!!

So with 4 weeks and counting for the big 26.2, if you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit join our club!

Congratulations to all fellow Porty’s who ran the race.
Jim Ramsay

Also in picture is Henry Muchamore ex top athlete and now the
welcome ‘voice’ at the end of the North Berwick race.

Some more photos this time from Lynn Morrice and Heather Anderson...
