Edinburgh Marathon 27/05/07

Although I wasn't in town for the marathon I read a quote which made me laugh. There were concerns that warm weather was on the way. In fact BBC weather forecaster Peter Sloss reported "the settled weather looks like continuing right through to the Sunday with temperatures continuing to rise." These concerns were put to marathon Chief Executive Geoff Sims who replied to the possible shortage of water question, "We have been running for three years now without any major hiccups."

Janet's race:
I'm delighted with how I done, I had to do it for myself especially after
London, I didn't even know I was doing it until the Wednesday as my back
has been playing up a bit. Even on the morning I woke up I couldn't bend
down properly to put my trainer on so just went along to Princes Street in
the hope it would loosen off and it did thank goodness.....

This from Graham Henry:
Just a note to say well done to all our runners at the Edinburgh Marathon. We had a lot of PB’s on the day and only a couple of runners who fell short of their best. A much better all round performance than previous year's agony with so many suffering. It is a long way and it is difficult to judge how fast to go at each stage as there is always the risk of fatigue getting the better of you. Word of warning if it is the same course next year it could be a very hard last 7 miles into the wind from Gosford as the wind this year is not the normal direction. Sorry I missed some of you esp George Salmond but I was stopped by a “Ricky” near Longniddry and had to leave my bike. Not a good course for spectators but that is the City of Edinburgh Council’s fault for charging so much to close the roads.

Also good news from Stornoway with Ben Kemp coming 3rd and Amanda and Richard making up a team for an assault on the HEB 3. No doubt Peter and Mary will be back to add a bit of strength to the squad. Peter and Mary both won their categories in a USA Ultra Race to round off a weekend of positives.

Officials torture a runner until he agrees never to run without a number or under a false name again
