Forth Road Bridge 10k 14/8/05
Three Porty runners crossed the Forth Road Bridge early
on Sunday morning, 14 August, for Pitreavie AC's 10 k road race reports
Gerry Scullion.
Good performances by all. In a field of over 300 runners, I finished
6th in 35 mins 45 secs, Stephen Maley 24th in 38 mins 52 secs and Moray
Paterson putting in a fine performance to finish 32nd in 39 mins 30
secs.
Apparently the route of the course was changed from previous years.
None of us complained as this removed the difficult uphill part at the
end of the course and instead we had a fairly gentle descent of the
Forth Road Bridge finishing at the the north end of bridge.
The course began in North Queensferry, with a short uphill stretch followed
by nearly a mile slightly downhill towards the road bridge. We were
lucky with the conditions, only a light breeze to contend with, which
helped to keep me cool as I ran up the bridge before decending down
into South Queensferry. I found it strange crossing the bridge, not
just on foot, but in my running gear. I wondered what the traffic would
make of the race, which although at a safe distance, still close enough
to see us.
An underground passage took us to the opposite side of the bridge where
again we ascended to the top before making the final decent to the finish.
All told, a worthwhile race to do and the home cooking afterwards is
always welcome. So well done Pitreavie.
