Jedburgh Half Marathon 28/10/07
A sunny bright day for this, the final race in the Scottish Athletics Navy Blue Series. Porty sent a bus load down the road to enjoy the rural splendour of the winding undulating course but frankly I find this one really arduous and so gave it a bodyswerve. (I find all the hard work in the second half just horrible and a couple of years ago as Ricky went past in the last mile I was in such a state he asked with concern was I okay, thinking perhaps I had had a stroke.)
Our colleagues from Helensburgh were also there in force picking up prizes and points for the Navy Blue Series. (And taking photos.)
Janet just went past Michelle from Helensburgh in the closing moments (see photo above) to win first vet. Amanda, who possibly has the effects of her tremendous performance at Loch Ness in her legs still, had a tough race but managed a respectable time and her place gave her Navy Blue points to put her one place above Janet (who did one race less) - at 15th and 16th in the Scottish Grand Prix.
On the upside Jedburgh is always well attended, often sunny, and the route is pretty (though not flat.) On the downside there was nothing in the way of post race refreshments with even the usual burger van not being in attendance. And no sign of bringing the prizelist into the 21st century with a womens' team prize. (I'm sure the officials from Kirkcudbright circa 2004 remember the tongue-lashing received for similar offences.)
Julia and the Helensburgh girls had been targeting the NB series and managed 2nd team, 2nd master and 5th senior, which as she says is "not bad for a wee unflashy club with no coach." Good luck to Julia who will be chasing pbs in the upcoming Benidorm Marathon. And thanks to Andrew Henderson for the great photos of Jedburgh.
