A good hilly 5 miles: up towards the Braids then back
round and down to the Kings Buildings. A tough race on rough pavements
but its only 5 miles and brings out a strong field of mainly younger
(student) runners. James Harrison was first Porty in - there weren't
many of us there today with a lot signed up for Lasswade tomorrow which
is twice as long and possibly twice as hilly. Willie J was just spectating
today as he is running tomorrow so I gave him my camera set to rapid
fire mode telling him he couldn't take too many photos. He did try to
do just that returning it to us with over 1600 photos on the card so
I ran them together into a slideshow - sort of re-inventing films. Considering
the lack of preparation Willie had I think he did a pretty good job
of capturing the majority of the field, firstly about 30 seconds into
the race, then about half a mile from the finish just after we hit the
dip between the last descent and the final climb back to Kings Buildings.
I was pleased to go under 30 minutes and be only 11 seconds slower than
last year when I was doing a lot more speed work at the meadows Tuesday
night sessions just prior to this event. Obviously Willie's Wednesday
night session worked wonders.
Good luck to all Porties at Lasswade.

James, leading the pack in the GBR all-in-one.

All these runners beat me! I've got the hang of the first hundred metres
I just need to master the next 4.9miles.

Ivor was back to something like his previous form.
