Linlithgow 10k 24/9/06

I had wanted to do this race after spectating last year
and seeing what a nice t-shirt it was (long sleeved, handy coming up
to the cooler days of the autumn), also the course looked lovely following
alongside the Loch opposite Linlithgow Palace in the sunshine. As this
is an afternoon start (2.30) I wasn't too worried about the torrential
rain in the morning, it will rain itself out at this rate I thought..ha
ha! It rained and rained.

At least it was warm and we soon discarded the black
bin bags we looked so alluring in! A few of us from Porty turned up
and got the show on the road. I had been hoping to get under 45 mins
but quickly realized today wasn't the day! Excuse time now: Heavy wet
shoes, unexpected hills, slippery surfaces and bottleneck footpath where
runners (mostly men!!!) were trying to avoid puddles!!!! like we weren't
wet already! But I really enjoyed the course, I love getting a bit muddy
and the t-shirt again is great. Janet did us proud coming in 2nd lady
and Shelagh was convinced we may have a team prize if there is one.

Karen, Janis and George all came in quite pleased with
their times. Karen's husband Alan had gamely come along to take photo's
and offer his advice 'you must be mad', or words to that effect. We
headed off to Tesco's to use their loos to get into warm clothes and
find a hot cuppa tea, this was perhaps something that could be organized
for next year. Perhaps a couple of tents at the finish line to get changed
and leave kit during the race?
