Abernethy Highland Games 10 Miler 8/08/09

Jim Scott and I had decided to do this
race a wee while ago. We ran it 4 years ago in a very hot day, this
time however the weather was pleasantly warm though not too hot. After
being out jumping around to the Stranglers the night before, I headed
up the A9 to Nethy Bridge.

The Highland games itself is a wonderful
spectacle, full of tradition and wonder. The pipers from various bands
paraded round the field, while the track and field events were ongoing.
The road race itself started at 2 pm with
a good entry, with people from all over the world attending; I ran with
a father and son from Stockholm no less. The race started with 3 laps
of the field then out onto road and forest tracks, circumnavigating
Osprey lochs and beautiful scenery. Jim was well up in the field, and
had a good run, and looks like he has recovered from his previous back
problems. I was happy with my time, and spoke to various runners on
the route, one in particular, Adrian from Forres Harries sends his best
regards to Portobello runners Peter, Ben and Willie J from the Heb 3
challenge.
All in all it was a lovely day out, and
well worth the effort of getting up there. A big thank you goes out
to my good friend Mike Sandison and his family, from Nethy Bridge, who
looked after Jim and I and treated me to my tea and a shower after the
race. Mike is a world class climber, and all round lovely man.
