In the past I have had enough free time
to spend up to 10hrs per week doing this club website. However work
and life have been making it harder to find that time of late so I
asked Douglas if he could look into the possibility of getting new
software or somehow making my life easier. There seem to be so many
options in the virtual world that it isn't just a case of running
out and buying something to sort this, so Douglas (who is far more
up to speed with IT stuff than myself) spent some time taking a look
at the possibilities.
He has come up with a new website format
for the club. The link is below and takes you to our new website.
Although we are working on some fine tuning and PRC branding you will
see its similar to the last one in that you can click on reports to
see what Porties have been up to. The current (old) website will remain
and several items and archives of reports will be linked from the
new website.
You should also register and when you
have done this you can see the chat board link that will take you
directly to the old chat board which seems to be a success. Things
like the championship tables also become available. Both websites
will be run in parallel until we have established the transition to
the new site.
However the big thing that will make
my life up to 10hrs richer a week is that you can now post your own
reports instead of sending them to myself to edit. Douglas has outlined
a HOW-TO which I must confess I haven't had the time to go through
yet but given Sandy and Ian have already authored their own recent
reports, it appears to be very easy to use. If you are really IT-shy
and can't follow simple instructions then you can still send in reports
and photos to the email address on the left and I will grudgingly
do it for you but the main idea of this new site that Douglas has
put a good deal of energy into, is to avoid just that. I have been
doing this for a number of years and now its your turn to share the
...I was going to say burden but in fact its a joy to see one's ideas
transformed from a fleeting thought to a few paragraphs of fun or
woe about the experience of running.
If you have any input or ideas you want
to see on the new website let myself or Douglas know.
