Email from Oz....

Michelle Tham and family moved from Edinburgh to Melbourne a couple of years back shortly after Michelle had run a scorcher at the 2006 Edinburgh Marathon. PRC's loss was Knox Roadrunners gain, and to underline the link have recognised us as a Sister Club. We have returned the honour and welcome any visitors from Knox to our running world. Michelle emailed recently...

Just been admiring the Pentlands scenery that you posted on your website! I don't look at the site too often as I do find myself getting homesick for Edinburgh. It is lovely to be home in Melbourne, but there is something about Scotland that tugs at the old heart-strings.

I notice that PRC is now a link on the Knox Roadrunners website. I wonder if you'll get many visitors from here...and vice versa? We do have one Edinburgh runner, Jim McGregor, who has lived in Melbourne for about 40 years now. He does get 'home' from time to time. They are a good bunch and would welcome any of you guys with open arms. Don't know how you'll feel about coming down the clubrooms at 6am on a Saturday morning for the run though!

How are my pals Shelagh and Gill? I hope to get Shelagh out here at some stage.

We have the Melbourne Marathon coming up in October, so the training is really starting to hot up. I did a half on the weekend in 90 mins, so I'm pretty happy with that. Tomorrow is a 34km run, so that will be the longest so far.

The family are all well here. My 'baby' just had her third birthday and the boys are now 4 and 6. OK, off to feed the kids their tea.

Hello to all at PRC.
Michelle.

And again 15/09/08

Ran 38km on Saturday, which is our last long run pre-Marathon and a very timely reminder of how much it hurts! I went off a bit fast and suffered towards the end, but I am glad to have it under my belt now. It's a great run for the Club as we run from Knox to the beach and end with a dip in the Ocean and a yummy breakfast.

Got a lovely email from Shelagh on the weekend. I can't believe how quickly her children are growing up too. Time just goes by too quickly (or does that mean I'm just getting old??).

Hi to everyone,
Michelle

Many thanks to the Thams for the use of these images from their family website,
This was what got the ball rolling...

My name is Neil Woods and I am the Treasurer of the Knox Roadrunners in Melbourne. Australia.

One of out members, Michelle Tham ran with your club a few years ago when her and her family were living in Edinburgh.

A while ago, it was suggested that we could arrange a sister club relationship between our two clubs but nothing has progressed beyond that. I am hoping to push forward with this and arrange a formal agreement between us.

Although the possibility of members taking advantage of running at each other’s clubs is quite small, it would be nice to know that there is a friendly group of runners on the other side of the world to run with if the opportunity presents.

My thought would be to provide a link to each other’s web site on our own site and to offer reciprocal rights to members of each club to run if a member happens to find themselves in Edinburgh or Melbourne.

Regards
Neil Woods

Many thanks Neil.

Anyone travelling to the Antipodes and wishing to get in touch with Knox Roadrunners can email them following the link from the front page of the website or from here. Great to hear from Michelle and we look forward to hearing how the marathon goes. Good luck from your Porty friends!
