Paisley 10k 27/8/06

photo from previous cross-country event
Lovely morning for a run, I thought, as I drove to Willie
Murray's house at 7.30am. With plenty of time ahead of us, we headed
towards Glasgow in Willie's car; Willie being experienced as he was
driving towards his home town of Paisley.
The weather seemed to change a little with a bit of
rain and black clouds; out of nowhere a rainbow appeared and I thought
we're both going to have a good day.
As we approached Paisley I thought there would have
been a bigger crowd to support Willie but they must have had hangovers
from watching St. Mirren the day before.
Towards Paisley Willie pointed out his old house where
he stayed for 24 years and his dad's kiosk shop, not to mention the
River Cart and the 12th century building in the town hall. We parked
the car and registered, then warmed up before heading towards the start
line. Willie's neck was stiff so he sprayed some deepheat on it hoping
he could turn his head to see his old house and his dad's kiosk shop
on the 10k route.
The race was well organised with over a thousand entries.
I started off at a nice pace, I was determined to enjoy the race, and
I certainly did. They even had a clock at half way.
I finished in a time of 38.12 (second 35 ~ 44) and won
£40! I was delighted, even though they called me Jane Dunbar,
but don't worry I soon told them it was Janet
Dunbar. Willie's neck was fine all the way and he looked strong coming
in, in a time of 46.20.
What an enjoyable day and lets hope to see more Portobello
runners there next year.
