RUN EVASION RHÔNE. 10/10/10
The Run Evasion Rhône is a popular local point-to-point
race of 22.3 km (approximately 13.9 miles) from Geneva to Dardagny.
The course follows a beautiful scenic route on paths/tracks
through stunning Swiss countryside and along the banks of the Rhône
River. In 2009, the race welcomed a record 490 individual competitors
and 126 relay teams of two.
You can view the race website with photos, map course,
profile and other information at: http://www.runevasionrhone.ch/.
Alternatively if you type ‘Run Evasion Rhone’ into your
Web browser you should be given the option to ‘translate this
page’ into English. Although the translation is pretty poor, it
is enough to give basic you information about the race. (I
found this website a bit messy and confusing - they'd be better off
with just some attractive pictures of the course. pb)
Flights:
The easiest and most economical option is Easyjet, as it flies to Geneva
direct from Edinburgh. Most who have registered so far are travelling
on the Friday 9 October flight and returning on the Monday 11 October
flight. At the moment, return airfare from Edinburgh to Geneva on these
flights is around £80 including luggage but you may get it for
even cheaper if you leave a different day or share luggage.
Accommodation:
There is a wide range of accommodation available in Geneva however hotels
tend to be fairly pricey. I have found cheap and cheerful hostel accommodation
in the city centre with a range of options from single rooms to dorms
of up to three beds, and quite a few of us have booked rooms here already.
Prices range from one bed in a shared three-bed dorm room for £20
per person night, up to a private single room for £40 per person
per night.
This does not include breakfast, but there are plenty of cafés
in the area. Check out the website and book your room at: http://www.cityhostel.ch/english/
Registration:
Once you have booked your flights and accommodation, please email me
on tracypaterson@hotmail.co.uk and I will send you a registration form
to complete when entries are open in July. My plan is to collate all
registration forms and send them to my friend Olivier Marchon, who is
also the race organiser. This way he will arrange all our registrations/numbers
to pay and pick up in one separate file on the day before the race.
Please don’t hesitate to email me if you’ve
any questions and I hope you can come!
Cheers
Tracy
