Portobello 4 mile Road Race 18/06/09

Same course but different start and finish to utilise the Bowling Club as our base for the evening. Don't know why we didn't think of this before now, although once the sun went behind the buildings those marshalling felt the chill of the stiff breeze. A strong turnout in the men's field led to fast times despite the wind and the battle for first place was being contested over the first 2 miles at least.

Again another battle to the line.

Here's a report just in from Jenni...

After helping out with the kids registration and bringing my mum along to help marshal the event I thought I was eligible to run the Porty 4 mile race on Thursday night.

It was a nice evening, albeit windy, but at least it wasn't raining.

The race started at the amusements and headed past the bowling club towards the cat and dog home. I felt the race started very fast and tried my best to keep up with everyone, at one point I thought I was going to be last, but after a reassuring glance over my shoulder, I realised there were quite a few runners behind me.

We ran along Seafield, with plenty Porty marshals giving me support, down Kings Road, back past the bowling club to lots of cheers. I had run the first 2 miles in 14.40mins, which I felt ok with, but didn't think I was going to be able to maintain it. For me the prom always seems never-ending and there was no change here. Running around the corner at the Chinese restaurant to a cheery Ricky who was shouting support to me.

Then on the home straight, which was heading into the wind, just to make it harder. I finished in a time of 30.23mins, which was another PB by 2 minutes for me, but just not under the desired 30mins. All in all a good race, and makes a change doing the shorter runs.

A great turn out from Porty and I appreciated all the support along the way.

Thanks to Peter for taking some great action photos. Well done to all who organised this very sucessful event.
