Portobello 4 mile Road Race 14/06/07
What happened to global warming when you need it? Middle
of June and the spectators were wearing hats and gloves, a bitter wind
blowing off the sea and through the singlets. Records weren't going
to be broken this year - except maybe attendance in the kids fun run
immediately before the grown-ups four miler along the prom and back.
Numbers for the main race were highest since 2003 despite the unsympathetic
weather; possibly on account of Alan Aitchison's efforts to raise sponsorship,
publicity and general va-va-voom. I'm sure everyone who left with a
spot prize would agree he did a fine job. Perhaps next year he can arrange
better weather too.

Dave Blackie established his lead early on...

followed by Adam Priestley and Phil Mowbray who battled for second.

Hannah Edwards also dominated from the start.

Approaching the finish.

Phil wins the battle for second.

9 seconds adrift for third.

Hannah is first woman.

With a strong finish Sharyn Ramage takes first vet
