Tom Scott Memorial 10 Miler 8/04/07

When I saw fellow Porty runner Alan Aitchison and he gave me the news that they had changed the course my first thought was not 3 times round loch but it wasn't as bad as I had feared. The usual pre race jog was not out and back for 5 minutes but trying to catch Ryan who was off at any chance given. I think he's going to be a runner or a footballer, one or the other. I see Alan again at the start and I asked him how the Edinburgh Half was; with a shake of the head it was just a bad day at the office we all have them. The first few miles are the same running round the loch but just as I was preparing to go round again we turned left up on to the main road which involves the only climb in the race. Back on to the flat and we are about to run past M&D'S theme park where people are starting to arrive and park on the road, where there was just enough space to get through but one who was obviously a bit stressed shouted "WHY DID YOU HAVE A RACE ON EASTER SUNDAY" to which I responded with a "SHUTUP" which was maybe not a good idea but there is no pleasing some people. Halfway in 33.20 and on course to get under 70 mins and all is well until 7miles and in to a headwind. It wasn't bad the first time round but this time you were right next to the water so it was a case of head down and try not to think about it. we finally turn in to the last mile and a bit which is flat all the way to the finish like most of the run and a time of 67.26. I was greeted by another Porty runner who ran Dunbar yesterday (sorry can't remember your name and it makes you wonder how I got a job as a postie) who ran well. Jogs back to see Alan coming in strong and gave him not the usual "all the way to the finish" but a "GET HIM" and the runner he passed got such a fright I thought he was going to collapse.
If anyone wants a fast 10 mile time then this is the course. Yes it can be annoying seeing the other mile markers but at least you know where you are going or is that a bad thing? See you all a week on wednesday.
p.s doing the whole session must have done the trick Bert first mile 6.30 last mile 6.20
