East District X-Country Relays
Duloch Park Dunfermline 14/10/06
Saturday dawned bright and sunny and Kerry, Zoe and
myself set off to Dunfermline to have a go at cross country. I've only
done the Braids x-country race a couple of times and Carnethy 5 once
but had enjoyed the challenge of off road running so I persuaded Kerry
and Zoe to join me and make a team for this relay race. The course round
and about Duloch park up a wee hill and through a wee forest, lots of
zigzagging to make up the 2.5 mile lap we were each to complete. We
arrived in enough time to discuss footwear, which order we should run
and get some tips off Janet who was running for City of Edinburgh. Kerry
went off well first and I anxiously waited to go 2nd, she came storming
in in 18.02 and I was off...It was awful, my legs felt heavy and I couldn't
get my breath, I was aware of being in a team and not wanting to let
them down. I couldn't get to grips with the terrain (I think I was over
cautious after being injured recently, good enough excuse Alan?) and
bumbled my way round in a disappointing 20.38. Zoe then headed off to
overtake the 2 ladies I had let get past me and Kerry and I headed along
the course to cheer her in. Coincidently she came in with exactly the
same time as Kerry 18.02. No prizes this race but hopefully we can raise
a few folk to take part in the forthcoming x-country season; it's a
great way to keep training and racing over the winter.
